Our 2nd Night Community Seder is scheduled for March 30th at 7:00 PM.  You MUST RSVP by March 20th to attend this wonderful event.

We have mailed invitations to those of you for whom we have addresses.  You may also access and print the invitation on the new Community Seder page on this web site.

If you do not receive an invitation by mail, please email us with your updated mailing address so you will be included on future mailings.

  • Tuesday, March 30th, 6:30 PM, Community Seder, A Chavurah tradition! Join us or an all kosher Seder fun for the entire family!
  • Friday, April 9th, 7 PM, Join us for a pot luck dinner at 7 PM with services starting immediately after
  • Friday, April 23rd, 8 PMOneg Shabbat follows immediately after the service
  • Friday, May 14th, 8 PM, Oneg Shabbat follows immediately after the service
Sponsor a Challah!

One of the great fateures of our congregation is the homemade challah we have at every service. 

The Northwest Houston Chavurah now gives you the opportunity to sponsor this wonderful treat in honor of a loved one or friend.

Just let us know which service you want to sponsor and tell us about the special honor you wish to bestow.  The cost is only $20.  The reward lasts a lifetime!


Rabbi Mathew D. Michaels is the founding spiritual leader of the Northwest Houston Chavurah.  He served congregations in Brownsville, TX, Evansville, IN, Houston and Spring, TX before the formation of NWHC in 2005.  He also served as the Interim Executive Director of the Hillel Foundation for Greater Houston and Interim Rabbi of Temple Emanuel, Beaumont, TX.

Our rabbi earned a B.A. in Political Science from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1974, a Master’s of Hebrew Letters from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, Los Angeles and was ordained from HUC-JIR, Cincinnati in 1980.  In 2005 HUC-JIR bestowed the title of Doctor of Divinity, Honoris Causa in recognition of his 25th anniversary in the rabbinate. 

During his 20 years in the Houston area, Rabbi Michaels has been very active in the Jewish community.  He is past president of the Southwest Association of Reform Rabbis (SWARR) and the Houston Rabbinic Association.  He has served on the boards of several major Jewish organizations including: AJC, Jewish Family Service, JCC, and the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston.

Rabbi Michaels is the proud father of  Mara (and her husband Daniel), Marty, Mindy and Benji.
